Nice Point « Link O' Admiration »

He didn't say he got it from somewhere else, so I guess the wisdom is Jay's alone.

What's it about? A brief compare/contrast of "Who Owns Your Body?"

You realize I disagree completely with the liberal assesment, don't you? ;)

It grew out of a discussion with Deb, and was actually primarily hers, but it was something I already "knew" at least in that libertarian philosophy rests on your self-ownership and that contrasts it with the alternatives. Figured I'd keep it short and sweet and let people run with it.

Jo,
Well, we've already discussed the uniqueness of your liberal credentials. I think Jay has an excellent point, though: the bulk of liberals act as if the State owns all bodies. Which is even more clear when you add in the European liberal tradition from which American liberal ideology developed.

As in, it wasn't conservatives euthanizing babies because they might never have a normal life (and cost the state too much to repair/ameliorate disabilities).

And let's not forget Hillary Clinton's "It Takes a Village to Raise a Child". That's classic "State Owns Your Body" stuff right there.

I guess you could alter the sentences to refer to who owns your children, or you income, or your talents, or your property, and it would still be just about 90% accurate in all cases.

But never 100% accurate, and that's not really the point. Things like this aren't meant to say that there really are only three opinions about a subject, but they do point out some underlying and subconscious assumptions that tend to result in our political affiliations.

In any case, Jay, nice stuff. Worth considering and debating.
