The Glennstapundit Nods (Twice) « Snark »

A few days ago, Glennstapundit said this:

THE CANADA/NAFTA STORY continues. I predict, however, that the term "Goolsbee Gate" won't catch on.

I emailed and suggested "NAFTAquiddick".

Glennstapundit updates the post saying:

MORE THOUGHTS HERE. And a reader suggests "Naftaquiddick" in place of "Goolsbee Gate." Er, no.
Even though I include the url to this website, The Instapuppetmaster fails to give me my first Instalanche. Sigh.

And yet, what do my wondering eyes behold today?

NAFTAQUIDDICK UPDATE: "In a conference call going on now, the Obama campaign is continuing to flatly deny that adviser Austan Goolsbee told Canadian officials not to worry about Obama's anti-NAFTA stance. . . . He concedes that Goolsbee did talk to someone in the Canadian government, but insists the two were 'essentially having some casual conversation, and the reports of the conversation are simply not accurate.' Plouffe says Goolsbee was not speaking as a representative of the Obama campaign and that allegations that 'somehow this was an official meeting' are not true."

Once upon a time I whined my way into a place on Michelle Malkin's blogroll in much the same why I'm whining about not getting linked today. I doubt it will work this time. But the more you readers click through to his web, the greater chance he'll notice it.

And then I'll be embarassed. But I'll be embarassed with lots of traffic, so it's all good.

The Granola Election « Snark »

Nice photoshop.

I think within a decade, photoshops will replace editorial cartoons in newspapers. It accomplishes the same thing, in much the same way, but requires computer savvy rather than hand-drawing art skills.

Cool Star Wars Snark « Snark »

There's some good stuff here.

That's not the main page, though. I pointed to that page (8 nitpicks of The Empire Strikes Back) because I assume you are skilled enough in webpage navigation to find the main page, and I really wanted to highlight this quote:

Nitpick #7 Luke's Scream In the original version of The Empire Strikes Back, Luke makes the ultimate heroic decision. He decides that rather than join the evil Darth Vader (who he's just learned may be his own father!) he will leap from a thousand feet, possibly to his own demise. The look in Luke's eyes, the triumph as he realizes he would rather die than join Vader, the sound of John Williams' horns followed his expression as he slowly let go and plummeted, possibly to his death.

In the "Special Edition" of The Empire Strikes Back the scene is unchanged except for one small detail: Luke screams like a little bitch* the entire time he's falling. Even though he'd]just displayed an expression of unspeakable heroism and bravery, he seems to have reconsidered once he is actually falling.

In the "Even More Special Edition" of The Empire Strikes Back, Lucas has opted to remove the scream. This could be viewed as a good change except that the scream should never have been included to begin with. The very fact that the scream exists at all, in any form, is enough to leave a sour taste in my mouth. The additional fact that it's been removed begs the question: Why was it added in the first place?

*This is in no way intended to offend anyone. I don't mean to sound offensive or misogynistic, but it's just what he does. There's no other way to put it than, "he screams like a little bitch". If you don't believe me, watch the movie.

I think the explanation truly established the humorous nature of that entire comment. I had an involuntary 5-minute giggle over the whole piece, especially due to the explanation of how Luke screams can't be described any other way...

Women « Snark »

Can't live with 'em, can't promote 'em to lead companies.

The comments are interesting, too; someone tries to suggest that "success" of companies can be measured in "harmony" rather than "aggression". Which totally ignores that a company's success is quite simply expressed in its profit.

Activists: can't win? Change the definition to suit your argument.

Two Americas « Snark »

I was thinking yesterday about Edwards insistence that there are two Americas.

It couldn't be, I thought.

But then I went to check out the facts; I went to the most authoritive sources I could find, and you know what?

John Edwards was right:
There are two Americas!

Nooooooooooo!!!!! « Snark »

They's Depurifying the Flamenco!!!

The tug-of-war between flamenco purists and innovators is similar to conflicts that have dogged other forms of art through the ages. In flamenco’s case, reports Graham Keeley of Britain’s Independent, the fight is complicated by questions over the dance’s origins, and disputes over who deserves credit for which innovations.

All is doomed. Doomed, I tell you!
