My All-Time Favorite Movies (Updated) « Stuff Important to Me »

Not necessarily in any particular order.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Supercop
Princess Bride
Silverado
Red Dawn
Mystery Men
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
Groundhog Day
The Magnificent Seven
Star Wars, Episodes IV and V (only)
Big Trouble in Little China
All of Me
Eat, Drink, Man, Woman
Charade
Monster's Incorporated (or maybe A Bug's Life)
So I Married and Axe Murderer
Real Genius
Better Off Dead
This Is Spinal Tap
Rio Lobo

These are my favorite because they inspire my imagination, make me laugh the loudest, provide the best quotes, and have the best stories.

In my opinion, of course.

Late Additions:
Oscar
The Terminator
Office Space (I can't believe I forgot that one)

More coming soon, I'm sure.

Update II:
And here they are:
Blazing Saddles
The Life of Brian (sorta tied with Monty Python and the Holy Grail)
Beastmaster
Robin Hood (animated)

Charade and the Magificent Seven are definately in my list. (Charade is probably my favorite Cary Grant film) - and anything with Steve McQueen...

(Sorry, I was caught up in the moment)

My family sent me "Key Largo" for Christmas. Its no "Casablanca" - the best movie of all time - but the chemistry between Robinson and Bogey is something to behold on the big screen.

I've never been able to get into "Casablanca". I'm not sure why.

"The Best Years of Our Lives" should probably be on the list, or close to it.
Other near misses: Strange Brew, Grand Canyon, Roxanne, The Jerk, Raising Arizona, Bloodsport, Aliens, Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles.

I'm disappointed.

How in the world can you leave "Stripes" off the list??

Posted by: Theco at December 26, 2004 06:57 PM

Well...
Because, to be honest, I didn't like it all that much.
It's okay, well worth seeing, but I don't own it and don't have any desire to own it.

Oh, I guess I should add "Life of Brian", too.

"2001: A Space Odyssey", "Pulp Fiction".

Theco,
I know, I know: what passes for taste in my little brain if I don't like Stripes all that much?

But my views/tastes have always been a little different. I mean, while most of the movies I listed are certainly popular, do you ever hear anyone mention "Oscar" or "Mystery Men" as all-time favorites? Or "Grand Canyon" and "Bloodsport"?
Stripes was funny, I grant you. But I've never really liked Bill Murray, and that is very difficult to get over for me. For instance, I love "Groundhog Day" despite Mr. Murray rather than because. I disliked just about all his characters on SNL, too. I know: Heresy!
Here's another movie I don't like much that will get me on people's crap list: "Caddyshack".

Heh, i get blasted every time i tell people "The first Matrix movie sucked a$$ the second was a two hour infomerciall for the third, and i refuse to see that one." Or being an SF/F fan and saying i don't like Tolkien or Jordan...

Now, I'm with you on all those.

I like Tolkien alot when I was 13 and hadn't read much SF&F.
Now I kinda consider it Fantasy with Training Wheels.
